Trains and Planes

Churchill Train Station

This photo is from a post card of the train station. The Churchill townsite is in the background.

Churchill Train Station

I took this photo in 1954 or 1955 from the spot where the cannon stood. I am not sure if anyone in the photo is special or if they just happened to be there when I gook the picture. Jack tells me that beyond the train station and to the left there was another native camp. One well-known native family there was the Pratt family. I would think that there are probably some of that family still living there.

Aircraft Salvage
I took this picture of a DC-4 when the train it was on stopped at the Churchill train station. The plane was loaded on five flatcars.

Aircraft Salvage
This is a closer picture of the DC-4 in the Winnipeg Free Press. It had the following caption: "Written off as a total loss after it belly-landed on an ice floe north of Churchill, Man, in May, this huge DC-4 transport plane may soon be flying again. The plane , salvaged in a remarkable operation in July, was dismantled and is being shipped over Canadian National Railways lines from Churchill to Wildwood, NJ, where United States Overseas Airlines hopes repairs will make it once again airworthy."
